Portoferraio overlooks a natural inlet that is well-sheltered from most winds, making it one of the safest harbours in the entire Mediterranean since ancient times. As one arrives by sea, the town reveals itself rising from the bay, embraced by its mighty and majestic fortifications. The colours of the marina reflect in the clear blue waters, creating a luminous and evocative scenery.

The Medicean dockyard is managed by the Cosimo de' Medici Company, headquartered at the harbour entrance opposite Molo Gallo. Its strategic location allows optimal control over the tourist dock, which comprises around sixty berths. The Medicean dockyard is well-equipped with utility pedestals providing water and electricity. Recently renovated public restrooms with showers are located near the dock, next to the Town Hall.

At the dawn of the new millennium, the Medici Dock was updated to meet modern harbour standards: professional staff, fresh water, electricity, assisted and simplified mooring, and various services to ensure a welcoming experience for all visitors.

Portoferraio and its historic centre extend around the marina, offering picturesque views and a lively, cheerful atmosphere. The area is rich in typical restaurants, bars, boutique shops, and a traditional covered market for provisioning. Nearby, visitors can explore notable sites such as Napoleon’s Villa dei Mulini, the Archaeological Museum, the Foresiana Art Gallery, the Church of the Misericordia, and the Medici Fortresses of Falcone and Stella. Surrounding the town lies the stunning sea of Elba and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.
