Exhibition Halls
“Telemaco Signorini” Exhibition Hall
Located opposite the Medicean dockyard, this hall is dedicated to Telemaco Signorini (Florence, 1835–1901), one of the leading figures of the Macchiaioli painting movement. He captured Elban life through works such as scenes of the marina in Portoferraio, Piazza Cavour, Le Ghiaie, and the island’s paths—including the famous painting 'Penal Colony at Portoferraio' displayed at Palazzo Pitti.
Celebrating the artist’s time on the island, the hall hosts exhibitions, events, and solo shows by local artists, promoting Elba’s artistic heritage and engaging both residents and tourists.
“Gran Guardia” Hall
Part of the 16th-century Porta a Mare complex, the Gran Guardia Hall takes its name from its historical use as a guardhouse for soldiers overseeing the city entrance from the harbour. Recently restored, it comprises two rooms with vaulted ceilings and large arched windows.
When not used for events, the hall is open every morning as a community space where residents can gather and read the daily newspapers provided.
