Teatro dei Vigilanti “R. Cioni”

This small architectural gem is located in the heart of Portoferraio and stands as one of many reminders of Napoleon’s brief stay on the island.

The theatre, featuring three tiers of balconies, was built in the 19th century on the site of a deconsecrated church once dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine (17th century), which was originally the chapel of a hospital commissioned in 1617 by Marquis Sorbello.

Recently restored, it is now the island’s only venue hosting major theatrical and musical events, including international performances.
