Medici Fortresses

Access to the fortresses is located at the end of Via Guerrazzi—known as “Porta a Terra”—which leads to the second entrance of the Medici town. The walk along the 'Fronte d’Attacco' offers a dramatic architectural experience, framing the western boundary of historic Cosmopoli.

The fortress, composed of bastions at various elevations sloping towards the sea, formed one of the main defensive centres of the city, along with Forte Falcone, Forte Stella, and La Linguella. Continuously reinforced over the centuries, these sites served as military bases and key observation points.

Today, visitors can enjoy benches, a refreshment area, and a children's playground—creating a pleasant atmosphere that blends history with leisure.
